- X Factor fans would like to ‘scroll back’ Jedward going through (13%)
- The Apprentice was crowned the number one show that Brits are most likely to scroll back to catch-up on (23%)
- TV is important to the nation - fear of missing out (FOMO) has led one in seven of us to ditch a major social occasion so not to miss something on the ‘box’ - over half (56%) have skipped out on meal with family or friends
- The survey is to mark the launch of YouView on Sony BRAVIA TVs, which allows users to scroll back up to a week, so you never have to miss a moment.
Almost six in ten (59%) admit they don’t like missing big TV moments, with telly fans left feeling frustrated (57%) or even upset (23%) if they miss a major moment on the small screen. When FOMO strikes, one in five (21%) Brits admit they feel frustrated if they are not able to catch up right away.
Spoilers are a major bugbear for the nations’ TV fans, with three in ten (29%) stating that spoilers are their biggest frustration when it comes to TV watching. Men are less likely to care about missing a big moment on the small-screen – 41 per cent of men vs 31 per cent of women.
Of those who have experienced TV show ‘spoilers’, leaks on social media, such as Facebook or Twitter, are not surprisingly the most common source (36%), followed by reading about it online, in print or seeing something on TV (35%), and overhearing it when out and about in public (12%).
If we could ‘scroll back’ moments in our lives, the majority of us (20%) would be mindful to save more money, or if we could do it again differently, Brits say they’d choose another career path (14%), study harder at school (8%), not worry as much (8%), and make better love life decisions (7%).
Over half (55%) of Brits admit to changing their plans because of TV scheduling. Almost one in five (18%) are guilty of changing plans once or twice a week. In fact, 14% of Brits have missed a major social occasion because they didn’t want to miss a something on TV – occasions include dinner with nearest and dearests (56%), a night out with friends or family (40%), a birthday party (20%) and even a wedding (10%).

The poll of 2,000 people also reveals the iconic TV moments that Brits would most like to re-watch, with Del falling through the bar in Only Fools and Horses crowned the number one moment (29%). Other TV moments that are close to the nations’ heart, which could be watched over and over again, include major sporting celebrations, such as Andy Murray winning Wimbledon in 2013 (16%) and the Olympic Opening Ceremony (15%).
